Community Outreach

Community Outreach facilitates communications and collaborations across the JLW current and prospective community partners and advisory board members. This committee leads the Community Roundtable on Literacy which brings together members throughout the DC Metro area with a focus on literacy so they may work and collaborate toward a common goal.

Done-in-a-Day (DIAD)

Done-in-a-Day (DIAD) provides both the community and the JLW (including A Capital Collection and Tossed & Found.) trained volunteers, four hours at a time. We value our volunteers, offer tremendous scheduling flexibility and variety of volunteer opportunities, and work hard to ensure that our committee experience is a positive one, both personally for our members and for the varied community organizations we support.

For the Love of Children

This Committee will support providing free educational services beyond the classroom to help under-resources students succeed from 2nd grade through college and in their careers.

Girls in Gear

This placement is an incubation of a new relationship with Girls in Gear (GiG) in anticipation of welcoming them as a new Community Placement Partner in future league years. This Committee will support the Glide to Ride program providing assistance in teaching girls ages 5+, specifically those residing in Wards 5, 7 and 8, of all abilities to ride bikes independently while fostering confidence and emotional resilience.

Grants Stewardship

To administer and monitor the JLW grantmaking process and evaluate new community placement opportunities for JLW members.

Kids in the Kitchen

Kids in the Kitchen provides volunteer support and event planning for select healthy eating and educational programs with our partners at YMCA of metropolitan DC, and other organizations around the region.

Literacy Events Planning

The Literacy Events Planning committee provides volunteer support and event planning for select literacy-related community programs related to book festivals and events in the DC region, including a partnership with the Library of Congress to provide support for the National Book Festival.
